How to Make a Wildflower Wreath

April 5, 2022 | Wreath Tutorials, Year-Round Designs

Ready to create a beautiful wildflower wreath that is just beautiful! In this wreath creation, we picked one wildflower bush and tried to decide which colors we wanted to pull from our inspiration to create a one-of-a-kind piece. Follow along as I teach you how to get inspiration from one stem to make a masterpiece.

Instead of just one or two, we are having a party of colors and using florals from each different wildflower. There are all different kinds of colors and blooms that look they are growing in your own garden. Everything from clusters of bright white daisies to tall, pink peach blossoms create an organic feel from a field of wildflowers. We finish it off with a cute bow with just the right pop of pink that is perfect for Spring.

DIY Multicolored Wildflower Wreath

I love using florals I have on hand for inspiration for a fun new design and this fun wildflower bush was the perfect spark for a beautiful wreath. We are using the wildflowers as both greenery and florals so be deliberate in your placement of each stem so you can fully utilize the bush throughout the wreath.

The florals in this design are so vibrant and colorful that we don’t need to use a ton of greenery. One of my favorites is the pink peach blossom stems that add so much color and height to the piece. The pink blossoms are the perfect complement to the pink ribbon in our bow.

Along with the peach blossoms, the purple sweet pea stems give so much dimension and height throughout the wreath. Breaking the design plane is my specialty and I love how it makes the design feel organic. Long and wispy floral stems add dimension and height. They mix so well with whispy elements like green berries and leaves giving this wreath so much movement and depth. It is going to be a perfect addition to Spring and Easter décor and a showstopper on any door. Let’s get wild with these flowers!

Ingredients

Directions

  • Grab your wildflower bush and tear it into 6 or 7 separate pieces. Trim the excess stems with wire cutters. Start by adding a wire wreath hanger onto the back of an 18” grapevine base.
  • Separate and fluff the bright green berry and leaves stems into smaller pieces and picks. Dip the ends in hot glue and start adding to the top of the grapevine base. Continue to add into the bottom and throughout the wreath base. Cover any exposed hot glue with Spanish Moss.
  • Take your pink peach blossom stem and cut it into two stems. Bend and adjust the stems and add into the top left between the green berries and leaves. Add a second stem on the bottom.
  • Tear the purple sweet pea bush into smaller stems. Dip the ends in hot glue and add a few purple stems to the bottom. Balance it off by adding a few purple stems on the top of the wreath base.
  • Grab your petite Daisy filler bush and push up the leaves to cuddle the blooms. Cut the large stem off the bottom and use it in small clusters. Hot glue a cluster of white Daisies into the bottom. Add a few more clusters on the top as well.
  • Fluff the wildflower stems and dip the ends in hot glue. Add into the top of the base and throughout the top and bottom of your design.
  • Add your pink linen and black and white harlequin bow on the left side between the florals. Fluff the bow loops and use your fingers to roll up the ribbon tails.
  • Separate your yellow day blooms bush into stems. Cut the large stem off from the bottom. “Shake hands” with the stems and hot glue a few stems throughout the top and bottom of the wreath base. Don’t forget to fill in around the bow.

How to make fake flowers look full

We are using a lot of different floral bushes and stems in this Wildflower wreath so it’s important to remember to find the best quality florals and greenery, so they look organic and real. One tip I like to use is to push the leaves up to cuddle the blossoms on my floral bushes. This helps your flowers look full and they will have more impact on your design. Taking the time to push up the leaves on each stem and fluff the greenery and bushes will add depth to every wreath you make. It’s a small step that makes a big difference whether you are designing for yourself or customers.
