Ivy Wreath with Berries for Year Round

We all know I love making wreaths, and I tend to love having a new one for every season. But I also know that not everyone wants to spend that much time making wreaths. When a wreath can do the heavy lifting of being used all year long, I am so happy to share it!

This wreath is not only gorgeous but also very versatile. Because it’s made on a grapevine wreath, you can easily switch out your greenery and florals. You can change the bow color to match your decor. There is so much you can do!

The best part is that it’s so simple. All you need are some simple supplies and less than an hour to pull together a wreath you can use all year long. You’ll be blown away by how easy this wreath is to put together and how gorgeous it is when it’s finished. Happy crafting!

Directions

  • Start with your 14” grapevine wreath and your bunches of Grape Ivy. Prepare your ivy by trimming each branch to 1” stems. Shape each ivy stem by moving the leaves so the front of each leaf faces forward.
  • Start placing your ivy stems into your wreath by dipping them in glue, poking them into your wreath, and covering the glue at the base of your stem with Spanish moss. Work clockwise around the wreath following a zig zag pattern, one stem on the outside of the wreath, one on the inside, and so on.
  • Break down your Cream Wild Flower Bushes into smaller bunches, and trim your stems down 1”. Work clockwise around the outside of your wreath, adding your bushes between the ivy stems. Dip them into your glue before pushing them into the wreath, and add Spanish moss to cover your glue.
  • Moving clockwise around your wreath again, place 1 or 2 bushes behind each stem of ivy. This will help the ivy sit up off the wreath and create dimension. If spaces between your ivy seem sparse, add another wildflower bush. If there is a space that needs more ivy, add it. Remember, this is handmade, not machine-made.
  • When all the floral pieces are in, I love adding a bow to finish the wreath. I used a beautiful black striped ribbon, but this wreath is versatile. Add whatever ribbon you love! We love a three loop bow
I place my wreath at about the 7 o’clock position. If your wreath was a clock, I put my box where the 7 o’clock would be.
  • Fluff your bow and straighten your florals, and you’re done!

Tips and Tricks For Ivy Wreath

  • Make this wreath your own! Change out the greenery or bow color to make your aesthetic. If you love eucalyptus, use that! Change the box color. Have fun with it! It’s your wreath, after all.
  • Switch out your bow to make simple but high impact changes to your decor. Using seasonal bows and switching them out throughout the year might be fun! Change it as your decor changes, and this wreath can be a permanent fixture in your home.

How do I keep my grapevine wreath from scratching my door?

This is a great question! Especially if you have a painted door, it is important to take good care of it. When I make wreaths that I know will be on doors, I sometimes put protective padding on the back of the wreath. I cut out small pieces of felt that I glue to the back of my wreath, which helps protect the door from scratch. This is a simple way to protect your door.

How long will my grapevine wreath last?

A well-maintained grapevine wreath can last for several years. However, you must take good care of it to ensure it lasts for years to come. Over time, the wreath may naturally lose some of its original freshness and structural integrity. I recommend that you keep the wreath away from direct sunlight, moisture, and excessive heat to help it last as long as it can.

Can I use hot glue on my wreath?

Absolutely! I use hot glue on all of my wreaths. I use what I lovingly call a glue skillet, a small kitchen electric skillet where I melt my hot glue sticks. Dipping my stems in the glue and putting them on my wreath is so easy. I use Spanish moss to cover any places where the glue shows on my wreath.
