Directions

  • Start with your 1.5″ Small White Dots on Natural Ribbon. For this bow, because it will be going on a wreath, I want nice long tails, so I decided on 16”. I add an angle cut to the end of my ribbon, then measure 16”.
  • Pleat your ribbon up, and place it between the rods on your bow maker. Add a twist to your ribbon, right hand forward, left hand back, so the back of your ribbon is facing up.
  • Create your first loop by looping your ribbon, then placing it back into your center rods. I went with large 6” loops. Scrunch it down and twist.
  • Create another loop by following the same steps as your first loop.
  • Add another set of loops, so you end up with 2 loops on each side, for a total of 4 loops.
  • Measure and cut your second tail to match your first. Add an angle cut to match your first tail.
  • Add your second ribbon, the 2.5″ Cream Burlap Weave Double Stripe Wired Ribbon, to your bow maker and follow similar steps for your second ribbon.
  • Start by measuring your first tail. I went with a little shorter tail, about 14”. You can adjust these measurements to make your bow look as you’d like.
  • Create 2 loops the same way as before, again at 6”. I made 2 loops with this ribbon, one on each side of my center pegs.
  • Measure and cut your second tail, then angle cut the end.
  • Add your 1.5″ White Open Weave Wired Ribbon to your bow maker, measure your first tail a little shorter, about 14”, then create 4 loops, 2 on each side, a little smaller this time, about 5”. Measure and cut your tail.
  • Put your 1.5″ Small White Dots on Natural Ribbon back on your bow maker, and make a smaller bow with this one again. Create about 12” tails, and 2 4” loops, one on each side, then measure and cut your second tail.
  • Thread your cable tie behind your ribbon, then carefully remove the ribbon from the bow maker. Tighten your cable tie, rotate it to the back of the bow, then tighten all the way.
  • Cut a small piece of your 1.5″ White Open Weave Wired Ribbon, about 8” long, to tie around the center of your bow. Fold it in half long ways, and then tie it around your bow.
  • Fluff and arrange your loops and tails, and your bow is ready to go on your wreath!

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Switch up your ribbons to create some unique looks, if you’d like. I think that wire-edged ribbons work best, but you can try a variety of sizes and patterns. This will switch up the way your bow looks and can help it match your wreath perfectly!
  • Make the bow your own! If you’d like more loops, add them. You can follow the same steps to create as many loops as you’d like.
  • If you’d rather use wire than a cable tie, 18 gauge works perfect for bows.

Can I mix different ribbon widths in a neutral bow?

Absolutely! Mixing different ribbon widths in a neutral bow can add depth and visual interest to your creation. Combining various widths allows you to play with proportions and create a dynamic bow that catches the eye. Try layering thinner ribbons on top of wider ones or weaving them through the loops to add texture and dimension. The key is to experiment and find a balance between the different widths that complement your overall design aesthetic.

Are there specific techniques for fluffing and shaping the bow loops?

Absolutely! Fluffing and shaping the bow loops is where the magic happens in creating a stunning Neutral Bow with Texture. To achieve those picture-perfect loops, gently tug and manipulate each ribbon strand, working from the center outwards. Start by separating the layers of the ribbon and fluffing them up to create volume and dimension. Then, carefully curve and shape the loops with your fingers until they form a pleasing arrangement. Don’t be afraid to adjust and finesse until you’re satisfied with the overall look.
