June 29, 2021 | Bow Tutorials, DIY Seasonal Decor, Patriotic

In this patriotic bow tutorial, I will teach you how to make different bows to help you decorate for the 4th of July or patriotic holiday. With these red, white, and blue bows you will love adding them to your wreaths and other festive holiday décor.

Patriotic Bow Tutorial

It is that time to start putting patriotic wreaths and décor in your stores if you sell wreaths and door hangers. I am showing you today some simple bow recipes that you can start using to make bows to have those wins in your business.

I honestly think the key to making great bows is using an EZ bow maker. If you do not have one yet I highly suggest it be the first investment in your business or for your personal use! Once you start making bows with an EZ bow maker you will be able to more quickly mass produce bows and have them looking amazing!

Bow making is really just following recipes. What you do to one side you must do the other. Once you start following these recipes I have created you will be able to conquer all the bows you need to make! I have come up with a few different recipes that I really enjoy following when it comes to bow making. You will see some of these examples below or even check out the recipe I used making the summer funky bows earlier this month!

3 ribbon bows with red, white, and blue wired ribbon

Directions for bow #1 Recipe 1-2-1

  • Using an EZ Bow Maker make your tails at 24 inches and make one loop at 7 inches.
  • Bring in your second ribbon with 20 inches tails for this one. Bring your loops to 6 inches on each side. Do another set of loops on each side. Then scrunch in the center and fluff out your loops. Bring your tail down and cut.
  • Now with your last ribbon, you will just be doing a loop on each side. Measure your tail a little shorter to 18 inches and make your loops at 5 inches.
  • Secure the center with a cable tie, bring it tight but not all the way tight. Add in a cable tie to the back and this will be where you attach your bow to your wreath. Once that is in and you fluff your bow you can secure your cable tie all the way tight.
  • Roll your tails up if you desire.

Directions for bow #2 REcipe 2-3-2-1

  • Measure your tails out to 20 inches and make 2 7 inch loops on each side. Pull your tail down and cut your ribbon.
  • Bring in your second ribbon 1.5″ flag ribbon making your tail 18 inches, now make your loops at 6.5 inches. Make 3 loops on each side. Now pull your tail down and cut.
  • Using your stripe ribbon make your tail a little shorter and them make 2 loops at 6 inches on each side.
  • Finish up your bow using your 1.5″ flag ribbon and bring it to the top by measuring your loops at 5 inches.
  • Secure the center with a cable tie, bring it tight but not all the way tight. Add in a cable tie to the back and this will be where you attach your bow to your wreath. Once that is in and you fluff your bow you can secure your cable tie all the way tight.
  • To cover your mechanics of your bow cut a little strip of ribbon and tie around the center of your bow and then trim the edges off.

Directions for bow #3 Recipe 2-1-2-1-1

  • Measure out a 20 inch tail and trim it. Make your first loops at 7 inches and do this two times on each side. Pull your tail down and trim.
  • Adding in your second ribbon make these loops at 7 inches. Just one loop on each side with your second ribbon.
  • With your red ribbon bring these loops in a little bit shorter at 6.5 inches. Make two loops on each side. As you make these loops be sure to pull them and place them in the right place.
  • Bringing in a 3rd ribbon make your loops at 6 inches.
  • Bringing the bottom ribbon back to the top. Make one loop on each side at 5 inches and secure with a zip tie. Add a ribbon to the center to cover the mechanics that is holding your bow together.

Directions

  • Start by finding cutting the styrofoam so it is nestled inside of the Green Frankenstein Bucket so that it sits nicely inside and glue down. I like to use both Gorilla Glue and Hot Glue to really secure it for both now and long term.
  • Cut Black Garland Base into small sections and set your base, spreading for maximum coverage.
  • Prep your picks by grabbing your Purple Green Orange Felt Ball Twig Sprays. Sseparating them into smaller picks. You can also twist the black chenille around your finger to create a fun effect.
  • Trim your Glitter Eye Ball Picks and add to the stryofoam. Be sure to space them for the best visual display.
  • Cut and prep the White Black Chenille Curly Stems add some dimension to them by curling with your fingers to really give them life.
  • Stem back and look at your your centerpiece. Are thier bald or blank spaces? Fluff you black garland to fill and use the wires in your products from Keleas.com to really get the pieces where you want them.
  • Grab one of your Glitter Curly Velvet Ball Picks and trim the stem down to a couple of inches. Fluff out your pick, and then place it to the left of your bow, tucking it behind the bow to have it peek out from behind it.
