Ingredients
- Valentine’s Day Heart Door Hanger Kit
Heart-shaped Base
1.5″ Champagne Mega Glitter Net Ribbon
1.5″ Black Linen Red Hearts with Gold Dots Ribbon
Plastic Boxwood Stem
Directions
- Start by prepping your Heart Base by cutting off the jute hanger that is attached to the heart. We will add a cute ribbon hanger instead.
- Layer your ribbons so that your Champagne Mega Glitter Net Ribbon is behind the Black Linen Red Hearts with Gold Dots Ribbon, with the backs of the ribbons touching. Both of your ribbons should be showing their right sides out. Cut your ribbons to be the length you’d like your hanger to be, with a little extra.
- Grab your straight pins, dip them in glue, and use them to stick your ribbons to your base. I left a little bit of a tail on both sides, and dovetailed by ribbons.
- Create a loop at the top of your hanger. This will be where we add our bow and greenery. Stabilize the loop by adding 1 cable tie at the base, and another through the loop.
- Now move onto your bow. Grab your Champagne Mega Glitter Net Ribbon, and put it on your bow maker. Start by cutting a dovetail cut on the end of your ribbon to create a finished edge. Create your first 8” tail, then create your first loop. I made my loops 5”. Give the ribbon a strong twist to secure it.
- Create the other loops, just the same as you made the first. I created a bow with 4 loops, 2 on each side of the center pegs.
- When your loops are all completed, cut your second tail the same length as your first, and dovetail that ribbon as well.
- Prepare your Black Linen Red Hearts with Gold Dots Ribbon by cutting an angle cut on the end. Create your first tail, the same length as the others, about 8”. Make your first loop, a little smaller than the first set of loops, following the same steps above. I made mine about 4.5”. Create 2 loops the same way, 1 on each side of your pegs. Cut your tail to match the length of the others.
- Grasp your ribbons and slowly pull them off the bow maker base. Loosely add your zip tie around the center of your wreath. Pull the ribbons the rest of the way off the bow maker. You will want to be careful so you don’t mess up the loops you just made. Turn your zip tie so it’s on the back of your bow. Fluff each section out, and separate your loops.
- Prep your Plastic Boxwood to add to your door hanger by creating clusters with some longer stems and some shorter stems. Create 2 clusters, and criss cross the stems to create a little, mini swag. Attach the clusters together with a cable tie and a little glue. “Shake hands” with the pieces and spread the greenery out.
- Attach your greenery with a cable tie to your hanger vertically, so one side sticks up and one side sticks down.
- Attach your bow right to the middle of the greenery with another cable tie. Cut about a 10” piece of the Champagne Mega Glitter Net Ribbon, fold it on itself so it’s a little more narrow, and use it to cover the center of your bow, greenery and around the back of your hanger. Tie the excess ribbon into a knot, curl or fluff the excess ribbon on the back to add even more cute dimension, and your beautiful hanger is finished!
TIPS AND TRICKS
- Change out the colors or elements to make the centerpiece your own. Add a different bow or stems. Use different greenery and florals. The best part of this adorable door hanger is that it’s so easily customizable!
- Add some personalization by adding your initials or those of a loved one for an extra-special touch.
- I love my glue skillet. I just melt hot glue sticks in a regular kitchen skillet, which allows me to just easily dip my stems into the glue rather than trying to get my glue where I need it with a glue gun.
Creative Ribbon Ideas for Valentine’s Day Decor
Take your Valentine’s Door Hanger to the next level with a burst of creativity by experimenting with various ribbon ideas. Embrace the classic romantic palette with shades of red and pink, intertwined with shimmering satin or glitter-infused ribbons for an extra touch of glamor. Consider incorporating playful patterns such as polka dots or stripes to add a whimsical charm. For a rustic and timeless feel, opt for burlap ribbons paired with lace for an elegant yet down-to-earth aesthetic. Don’t shy away from mixing textures – try velvet ribbons for a luxurious feel or add a metallic sheen for a contemporary twist. The key is to let your heart guide your choices and create a door hanger that reflects your unique style and decor.
Can I use this Hanger Outside?
Absolutely! Your Valentine’s Door Hanger Home Decor can certainly withstand the great outdoors with a bit of planning. To ensure it lasts all season (and for years to come!), choose weather-resistant materials for the premade heart base, such as treated wood or durable foam.
When selecting ribbons, opt for ones made from outdoor-friendly materials like waterproof or weather-resistant fabrics. To secure your masterpiece against the elements, use a strong adhesive or reinforce with a clear sealant to protect against moisture. This way, your charming door hanger can endure the whims of weather and continue spreading love, even when Mother Nature decides to join the celebration.
